Leaving home: packing and farewells

All of our belongings in a couple of backpacks...

After a long week of drinks, parties and goodbyes it would seem that packing is the last thing on our mind. Why are there are so many last minute things to do when leaving home?

I am furiously trying to organise accommodation, bank accounts and sim cards for our arrival in London. It doesn’t seem like we’re leaving home when I’ve just hung out some washing. I’ve only just remembered that we’ve forgotten to cancel our gym membership. We haven’t sold the car yet and I still need to apply for a USA visitors visa… 17 hours until we leave home.. surely I still have enough time?

Our first night is in LA. We have booked a car (a convertible Mustang!) and will be driving to Las Vegas for three nights of honeymooning at the Flamingo Hotel on the strip. I am very much looking forward to the day spa, while hubby (it still seems strange to type that!) is keen to demonstrate his poker skills in the casinos. On our first night in Vegas we are going to Mystere by Cirque du Soleil at Treasure Island and will hopefully meet up with some friends who are also there on their honeymoon.

On the 12th of May we fly to San Francisco where we have booked a trip to Alcatraz and then to New York on the 15th of May where we will spend nine nights.

It will be sad to leave home and our wonderful family and friends behind, but I hope to keep you all informed about our journey through this blog, appropriately titled “12 Month Honeymoon”. Please feel free to comment with any tips or suggestions for our travels.

Love,
J & D
