Winter is coming

Never Ending Honeymoon | At home in London, UK

Melb Cup Celebrations

Winter is coming… British Summer Time is officially over and the shorter days are getting colder. Something that even the seasoned Londoner seems to have forgotten about since last winter…  But you can read more of that in my most recent article for the Aussie Times: [http://www.australiantimes.co.uk/winter-is-coming-london/]

After six weeks of torturous house hunting, Daniel and I finally joined forces with a Kiwi couple, Luke and Trace, to lease an apartment together. It must have been the 27th or 28th place that Dan and I viewed in our quest to find a home, but finally we were in a position to put in an offer for a great open plan basement flat, just minutes from Stockwell tube station and complete with its very own garden and apple tree!

Over the weekend we moved into our new abode, with our new house family, and we have been trying to settle in ever since. The issue is that we have hardly been home this week!

Now that we are settling into our own place, and I am settling into my new job, it seems that our London life if picking back up to its normal hectic standard. Quiz nights, dinner with girlfriends, friends’ birthday celebrations … this week has been crazy!

Happy birthday, Bexie!

So far, the highlight this week was attending the Melbourne Cup celebrations at Australia House, home to the High Commission of Australia and the diplomatic mission of Australia in the United Kingdom. The Coopers Ale and Aussie wine was flowing, the blokes were suited in a decidedly upward fashion and the ladies were dressed to impress – many of them adorning a traditional headpiece, hat or fascinator. We dined on meat pies and sampled mini pavlovas and lamingtons as the race that stops the nation was replayed on the big screen – much to the delight of cheering Aussies in the crowd.

It was certainly a fantastic night, but the week is not over yet!

Thanks to our good friend, Tina, tonight we dine at the Tower of London, before attending the very traditional Ceremony of the Keys (fingers crossed it doesn’t storm on us like it did last time!). I am also looking forward to my work’s annual fireworks display this Friday evening and our very own housewarming on Saturday night.

I expect that Sunday will be a very relaxed affair as we recover from this week’s exhausting events.

😉

Looking forward to our 3rd winter in London! And we have just booked our first few holidays since our return – some very exciting wintery times ahead!
