Hi Jacque: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I would like to take a trip with my girlfriend to Ireland near Dublin. The problems are 1 I and Jen may be on crutches and 2 She is deathly allergic to any dairy. Do you have any ideas to help us out. Please thanks Josie
Hi Josie,
I think it depends on why you are on crutches. With my foot in a cast, I could travel to Ireland and had the strength to use crutches as we wandered around the town. However, a few years later, my husband had knee surgery and couldn’t bend his knee to get on the Ryan Air flight unless we paid for the extra leg room. Unfortunately, I never made it to Dublin, so I can’t tell you from my own experience what the streets are like or if there is a local tourist bus you can take to get around the town – though I’m sure a quick internet search could help you with this information.
I regards to the diary allergy, that’s also tricky for me to comment on. I’m lactose intolerant and have found most places in the UK and west Europe can cater to that level without much trouble. If you are an English speaker and can communicate well with them, this will help.
Overall, I think Dublin would be a decent place to visit if you were using crutches. As long as you are prepared to Uber or bus around town and ask for help when you need it. The Irish are a lively bunch!
Good luck on your travels
